Carriage Rides

carriage crossing Main Street in Ouray, Colorado

Weather permitting, the Ouray Mule and Carriage Company offers rides daily though town.   The ride is approximately 45 minutes and includes a great historical accounting of the mining days in Ouray.  The route includes both sides of US 550 and you pass important landmarks like the Ouray County Museum, the Ouray County Courthouse where the original “True Grit” with John Wayne had a courthouse scene, as well as many of the Victorian era homes, and our hotel of course. Every day at noon, the mule and carriage can be seen riding down US 550.  The mule teams are very smart and obedient and while taking the historical tour, the driver explains why mules were used as opposed to horses in the mines.  We are happy to book your tour for you while you are in Ouray.
